JOB TITLE:                           Middle/High School Library Aide
 
EMPLOYMENT TERM:    9 months, August to May
 
REPORTS TO:                     Building Principal and under the supervision of the District Library Media Specialist
 
POSITION SUMMARY:

  • The Library Aide supports the daily operations of the middle school/high school library, ensuring a welcoming and resourceful environment for students and staff. 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework is a plus.  Library endorsement preferred.
  • Previous experience in a library or educational setting is an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of library systems and technology, including catalog software and office applications.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively with students and staff.
  • Enthusiasm for reading, learning, and promoting literacy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Library Operations
    • Assist in cataloging, shelving, and organizing library materials
    • Process new library materials and repair or remove damaged items as needed
    • Maintain accurate records
  • Student and Staff Support
    • Help students and staff locate library materials and access digital resources
    • Provide guidance on research strategies, citation formats, and use of library technology
    • Encourage a love of reading by recommending age-appropriate books and resources
    • Continue the commitment to the mission of the Aberdeen Catholic School System.
  • Library Environment
    • Ensure the library is clean, organized, and conducive to study and learning
    • Monitor student behavior to maintain a respectful and productive atmosphere
    • Create and update library displays to promote events, new arrivals, or specific themes
  • Administrative Duties
    • Assist with scheduling and coordinating library events
    • Manage library supplies and complete yearly inventories
    • Assist in tracking library expenditures, ensuring they align with the allocated budget.
    • Maintain accurate records of purchases, invoices, and payments.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to lift and carry books or library materials
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting
  • Occasional bending, stooping, and reaching to access materials on shelves
