Retailers Launch NextGen Business Builders
Pierre, SD – Business owners in South Dakota have a new tool to boost their network and their knowledge. It’s the NextGen Business Builders program offered by the South Dakota Retailers Association.
NextGen Business Builders is a 13-month program for individuals who have owned their business for five years or less. Through in-person and virtual sessions, participants will expand their knowledge in marketing, human resources, customer service, and other important skills, while networking with newer business owners from across the state.
“We’ve found that entrepreneurs, especially those who are new to business ownership, are looking for two things - accessible professional development and connection with other early-stage owners,” said Nathan Sanderson, South Dakota Retailers Association Executive Director. “Our goal is to support strong business leaders who can confidently lead their enterprise for years to come.”
Samantha Tupper, a Retailers board member from Brookings, says she’s excited for the launch of the program.
“I wish this would have been available to me when I took over Wink’s Fine Jewelry seven years ago,” said Tupper. “I really do believe new business owners who participate will realize a lot of value from it.”
Tupper, along with fellow Retailers board member Erin Krueger, owner of Freed’s Fine Furnishings in Rapid City, were instrumental in the development of NextGen Business Builders.
“When I became a business owner I needed knowledge, connections, and confidence,” said Krueger. “This program is designed to hit all three of those marks.”
Those interested in NextGen Business Builders are encouraged to visit www.SDRA.org . The site includes a preliminary schedule, professional development topics, and an application to participate.
The application process closes Nov. 15. The program begins January 11-12, 2026, with the South Dakota Retailers Association’s annual business conference in Pierre.
