Position:            Math Counts Coach
 
                        MATHCOUNTS® is a national math enrichment,
                        coaching and competition program that promotes
                        middle school mathematics achievement through
                        grassroots involvement in every U.S. state and
                        territory.  With over 21 years experience,
                        MATHCOUNTS is one of the most successful
                        education partnerships involving volunteers,
                        educators, industry sponsors, and students.
                                                                       
EMPLOYMENT TERMS:     September to March
 
REPORTS TO:                        Principal/Activity Director
 
REQUIREMENTS:                 High School Diploma or equivalent.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

  • Support the mission of the Aberdeen Catholic School System: Instilling Catholic values and promoting academic excellence by nurturing mind, body, and soul.
  • Plan and host MathCounts competition.
  • Recognize the importance of working hard and working together to develop God-given talents.
  • Assist participants in dealing with adversity and success in a positive way.
  • Demonstrate and work to instill pride in self, team, school, and community.
  • Model Catholic values including good sportsmanship by respecting teammates, coaches, officials, and opponents.
  • Coach 12 students to compete individually or as part of a team at competition.
  • Accompany winners at the local, state, and national level.
  • Challenge students’ math skills, develop their self-confidence and reward them for their achievement.
  • Develop team work, promote interest in mathematics and drive to excel.
  • Promote MATHCOUNTS during classes.
  • Meet before or after school once a week.
