Position: Oral Interpretation Head Coach (Forensics)
EMPLOYMENT TERM: Season in accordance with the SDHSAA (usually late August – early December)
REPORTS TO: Activity Director
REQUIREMENTS
A. Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree preferred, but not required by the state.
B. Experience Desired: Previous participation and/or coaching experience
C. Other Requirements: Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation for oral interpretation as an art. Maintain a coaching philosophy consistent with the Aberdeen Catholic Schools. Demonstrate skills in human relations and leadership. Possess an ability to communicate effectively and relate well with students, colleagues, and parents.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
- Support the mission of the Aberdeen Catholic School System: Instilling Catholic values and promoting academic excellence by nurturing mind, body, and soul.
- Recognize the importance of working hard to develop God-given talents.
- Assist participants in dealing with adversity and success in a positive way.
- Demonstrate and work to instill pride in self, team, school, and community.
- Model Catholic values such as respect for teammates, coaches, judges, and opponents.
- Assume responsibility for the entire program, grades 9 through 12.
- Ensuring each student has met all the requirements for permissions slips and other eligibility requirements.
- Preparing all budgetary considerations for the activity.
- Formulating practice schedules for all participants.
- Hiring judges for necessary contests.
- Assisting students in choosing material/selections.
- Making cuttings of pieces from various sources.
- Critiquing students at practice and suggesting ways for improvement.
- Supervising the students at all contests.
- Judging other participants at all contests.
- Coordinating transportation to all contests.
- Operating with the constitution and by-laws of the South Dakota High School Activities Association.
- Staying current on trends and techniques used in the activity.
- Preparing a proper itinerary for the Activity Director, parents, and students for all events that involve overnight trips.
